At the M Lasik Center in Dallas, TX, Dr. Michael Mazaheri uses his own flapless LASIK technique that not only reduces risks during surgery, but can also benefit you during your recovery. Additionally, he can provide guidance throughout LASIK recovery regarding the medication and precautions you will need to take. He will also see you for several follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
Dr. Mazaheri's flapless LASIK technique is a refinement of PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) surgery. As with traditional PRK, the initial healing and full recovery period are slightly longer than LASIK recovery. After your procedure, you should be able to return to work within a week and your vision should progressively improve over several months, with final results usually achieved after about six months. After you have fully recovered, you may still need glasses for tasks such as reading very fine print.
Instead of using a laser or blade to create a tissue flap in the cornea, Dr. Mazaheri uses a tiny brush-like tool to remove minimal tissue from the epithelial (outermost) layer. By performing your procedure without any cutting, Dr. Mazaheri can help reduce some of the risks and discomfort traditionally associated with recovery. Additionally, you will not need to worry about corneal flap complications.
After your surgery, it is essential that you follow special care instructions to help protect your eyes and promote the healing of the corneal tissue:
First and foremost, you should rest during the initial recovery period. For the first few days, it is highly recommended that you try to keep your eyes closed as much as possible. After about one week, you should be able to return to work and regular activities.
Your eyes will probably be very sensitive after surgery. To protect them from harm, you should:
Antiobiotics, eyes drops, and mild pain medications may be recommended to help manage inflammation and prevent infection. It is important that you precisely follow the instructions and use them as recommended.
Throughout the entire recovery process, our team will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Typically, several follow-up visits are required at our practice so that Dr. Mazaheri can evaluate your progress. These usually begin the day after the procedure, five to seven days post-op, and then continue as needed.
There are several common side effects you may experience throughout recovery, such as:
Discomfort should subside within a few weeks, while halos and glare can sometimes persist for as long as a year. Patients may also experience dry eyes in the months following surgery. If you are experiencing severe pain or other concerning symptoms, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Dr. Mazaheri did such an outstanding laser surgery on my eyes that I referred four other members of my family. We are all extremely happy with our results.
